Welding
When I graduate high school I want to be a full time welder. There is a lot of training to become a welder, especially if you want o be certified in a specific type of welding or more than one type of welding. There are three types of welding. The first type is stick welding which you would most often use in the construction trades. A couple examples of this would be pipe welding. You would also use it for structural welding such as an iron worker. The second type of welding is mig welding or it is also called wire welding. You use this for thinner metals such as 1/8 inch. If you work at a mechanic shop they most always have a wire welder. The last type of welding is tig welding. This is used for hobby projects it is also used for smaller diameter pipe welding and can be used for some structural welding as well.
To become a welder you must get certified first. To get certified you need to know how to do different position welds. Before you go to get certified make sure you can do everything that they expect you to do. Practice a lot because it cost a lot of money and if you fail then you just wasted your hard earned money because you weren't practicing enough and asking questions on how to fix things that you kept messing up on. When you go to get your certificate they test your weld on a few different things depending on what you want to get certified for. But commonly they test the three different types of welding for the same things. One of them is the break test. If the weld holds up to certain tension and doesn't break then it passes that test. Another test is they ultrasound. When you finish your weld they take a special machine that can look inside the weld to see if it has any holes or cracks, if it does then the weld does not pass that test. These are a couple of the basic tests that everyone will do when you go to get certified.
Welders can make a lot of money depending on how good you are. On average entry level welders make $24,490 a year. If you are experienced and are really good the top welders make an average of $55,240 a year.
